Lecture about 'Communication in serious illness and future care'

Prof. Ellen Csiki will present a lecture titled: Communication about serious illness and future care among individuals, families and health care professionals. She is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Social Work in End-of-Life & Palliative Care and an international authority in the hospice - palliative care.
The event will take place on May 12, 2012, from 14 hours in the central building of UBB, during the sixteenth Student Scientific Conference in Transylvania. Prof. Ellen Csiki is invited by the Faculty of Sociology and Social Assistance, The Department of Sociology in Hungarian language, Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

Workshop on Dignity Therapy

The Manitoba Palliative Care Research Unit, will organise a new Workshop on Dignity Therapy which will be held May 25-27, 2011 in Winnipeg, Canada.

This workshop will be of interest to:
• clinicians working with palliative care and/or geriatric patients who are in a key position to use Dignity Therapy;
• researchers who wish to include Dignity Therapy in the development of new research projects;
• health care administrators/nursing home administrators responsible for creating and operationalizing an approach to care that supports and affirms patient dignity and personhood.

Registration for the workshop will be limited to 40 participants and the final registration deadline will be April 21, 2011.

Palliative care services in the new framework agreement in Romania

In April 2010 the new framework agreement between health professionals and health insurance is at force. It is regulated that patients can receive up to 90 days of medical care at home. A novelty is that the recommendation can be done by family physicians. Also palliative care services were introduced in the package. Annexes 24, 25, 26 and 27 specify the who may receive this care and what are the conditions in which this type of care is given. Although, this is a new possibility for delivering palliative care, the number of institution which apply for this possibility, is limited.

The Romanian College of Physicians organised a contest and a gala awarding the winners for publications, communication and innovative projects in health care.
The Editor-in-Chief of PALIAŢIA was awarded as winner for ‘the medical blog of the year’. Marinela Olaroiu received the award – a crystal trophy – at the gala in the Odeon Theatre in Bucharest on 17 May 2010.

CREIP has a new location

After completing the program REPACARO (www.repacaro.ro) the Regional Centre of Expertise for Palliative Care (CREIP) in Slatina will continue its work within the RAINCARE Foundation.
The counselling centre is well structured and organized, with staff and volunteers and a local consulting palliative care team of health professionals. The centre has documentation and literature and a hotline available in working hours. Periodically, the centre organizes various training modules for competence in palliative care for professionals and volunteers, in addition training and information sessions are organised for the public.

Recently CREIP / RAINCARE have moved its headquarter building in SC OLTPIESS LLC, which company host and sponsor the new location.
